[2021 in fic] i'm in my flop era.
total stories written this year: 5
total word count this year (published works): 9.8K in total.
specific fandoms: aespa (1), loona (1, the last one ever lol), the idolm@ster (1), genshin impact (2).
goals and reflections for 2021:
this year was tough. i really didn't have any ideas, or just the drive to write anything? i think it was a slump for reading this year, even fanfic. i say this because i am genuinely a person who gets ideas from reading books, watching shows, video games, etc. luckily for me, i don't really set goals for myself, fic-wise, each year. personally, that only adds a damper on things? not sure how to explain it, but if i set a goal and don't reach it, i'm more inclined to give up.
also, if you are into mbti at all, here's a fun post! can you guys tell i'm a ne-type (dom? not sure what the wording is...) in my writing?
questions!
looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?
way less. i just contradicted myself, but i really did think i would write a little more than i did this year? anyways! the depression and me getting diagnosed with stuff probably just made this year worse, along with very personal stuff. i will not linger, but yeah, i wish i wrote a bit more this year rather than anything.
what pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in january?
i think i never like, go into anything without knowing i would write for it or not? for example, i will probably never write for my hero academia or naruto. i knew that i wanted to write for everything i did this year, so i'm not surprised at anything, fandom-wise. pairing wise, i tend to write for smaller pairings rather than one that will get clicks. but everyone wants their work to be noticed, so i sometimes i feel tempted to write for a pair that i don't care about but will get me engagement. sadly that feels inauthentic and has never been me, so maximum 2 comments on my fics will stay!
did you take any writing risks this year?
no, i didn't? i don't even know what taking as writing risk looks like.
events you participated in this year:
sadly, i did not! i wish i could have the motivation. maybe gg jukebox next year.
best and worst: 2021
your own favorite story of the year/most fun story to write:
my own personal favorite was i'm alright, if you're alright. i wrote it after going a bit crazy at home, and the whole plot and pairing was so fun to work out. for rpf, i ususally try to see if i can learn more group dynamics so it takes a while for me to invest, but aespa (jiminselle) was super fun to write in this setting. i hope the people who read it, enjoyed it! i still reread it sometimes and i'm like "oh my gosh,,,i'm actually a good writer?"
best story of the year:
still the aespa story, sorry to myself! though i did enjoy the xiao/aether piece i wrote!
hardest story to write:
Speaking of, probably the xiao/aether piece. i put so much hidden headcanons and lore into that story while also being vague, and i think the problem with it is that, if you weren’t reading it as me, you’ll definitely be a bit confused and missed stuff like reincarnation hints and other things.
"holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you!" story:
…..no more questions!
most memorable comment:
of course, every friend comment is nice! Though, my favorite is probably from wavetoearth on i’m alright, if you’re alright.
something you learned this year:
i have fun writing femslash more than slash. also, i need to write to help my stress. ummmm, maybe the fact that romance is truly my favorite aspect in a story; as in, i need a pairing to root for or i probably get bored. this is why i don’t read no shipping/gen fics like ever.
favorite fics you read this year:
though not tweeted, i read a lot of draco/harry this year. like, a lot. i still feel like i didn’t read enough, so expect more in the future, maybe. anyways, here’s a few faves, just in general that i had the pleasure of reading this year;
first love, late spring by cityboys.
tacenda by anonymous.
flashback, warm nights by warmfoothills.
running on air by eleventy7.
future goals (maybe):
i want to write more fic. not a set number or anything, just more than this year. i would also like to read more and watch more media, as i kind of only watched things if someone asked me too. i want to have an "identity" again. just engage more with my friends fics as well. try leaving more comments than usual.
in regards to fandoms, i will like to write more twice and itzy fic, along with aespa. those three i will aim to partake in more. other than that, i don't have plots in mind or anything.
wrap-up: i have never done this before. thank you to kaia and risa for the questions! happy holidays if you celebrate!
